Originally, we shot this image to become the cover for the first edition of our art calendar. At that time, we didn’t have our own online shop and tried to offer it on Etsy. We designed the calendar in the fall of 2023 for the upcoming year 2024. Unfortunately, we skipped the year 2025 but are going to improve next year.
Behind the scenes.
The idea
Until now, most of our works have been made in a portrait orientation. There is no decisive reason for that. It's probably more of a preference. Also, the fact that our background is usually only 1.5m wide but over 2m high plays well with shooting this way. The decision on the orientation is made during the work on the sketch.
Making
Currently, we are quite confident working with the water, replicating the sun, setting the overall lighting, and fastening objects—and doing this all at the same time. But only one year before this image was taken, we had to approach each of these things individually, spending lots of time mastering each technique separately. First, we made a photograph with water and a flower alone. Later, we made a photograph with a flower and a sun. And later again, we started combining all of these techniques together.
Materials.
Paper.
For paper-based prints, we use our favorite paper from the most renowned German manufacturer: Hanemühe Photo Rag. This robust paper features a pronounced texture while still reproducing even the finest details.
Frame.
We use only high-quality, German-made frames in a neutral wooden tone.
Aluminium.
Aluminium is our preferred material for its high-quality reproduction, attractive aesthetics, and practicality. Best of all, no frame is needed—everything for mounting is included, resulting in an elegant, minimalist solution.
