We chose our studio’s name after making good progress developing our visual style. Water played a significant role in our early images, and it also seemed to best describe the direction we were heading. So, we asked ChatGPT to generate a list of 100 or more translations for the word “water” in as many languages as possible. We both liked “mmiri” as soon as we saw it. So, what is Mmiri really all about? It’s hard to give a single, definitive answer, but if we had to, we would say: it’s an island of slowness and inner observation amid the fast-paced, highly optimized, and relentless modern world.
So mmiri isn't a product of pure logic. Creating still life images of flowers and everyday objects like paper in a complex studio setup – where each photo can take several days to complete – doesn’t make conventional “sense” in 2025. This is the age of AI, where an unbelievably detailed image can be generated in seconds. Mmiri is about following your own path; it’s slow, meditative, and unoptimized. It tries to help us step out, even for just a brief moment, from the relentless rush of the modern world.

We use only high-quality, German-made frames in a neutral wooden tone.
Aluminium.
Aluminium is our preferred material for its high-quality reproduction, attractive aesthetics, and practicality. Best of all, no frame is needed—everything for mounting is included, resulting in an elegant, minimalist solution.
