We like to experiment with flat geometric forms, combining them with three-dimensional objects like flowers. This creates an exciting contrast to the commonly expected plasticity that photography is known for.
Behind the scenes.
The idea
In this particular case, to oppose the plasticity of the flower, the vase and the cube, we used small pieces of paper, lit in such a way that the light produces a smooth yet strong gradient, resulting in an interesting glow. All three-dimensional objects in the scene are being shown from the side, just like the papers, which further emphasizes the play between the volume.
Making
Each piece of paper is lit by its own flash in a way that creates a strong gradient on its surfaces. This creates this "glowing" effect. A special filter on the camera lens further strengthens the effect by creating a halo around strongly lit objects. The composition is held in place by utilizing hidden fastenings as well as threads.
Materials.
Paper.
For paper-based prints, we use our favorite paper from the most renowned German manufacturer: Hanemühe Photo Rag. This robust paper features a pronounced texture while still reproducing even the finest details.
Frame.
We use only high-quality, German-made frames in a neutral wooden tone.
Aluminium.
Aluminium is our preferred material for its high-quality reproduction, attractive aesthetics, and practicality. Best of all, no frame is needed—everything for mounting is included, resulting in an elegant, minimalist solution.
